Health Benefits of Spirit Vinegar

Vinegar is a liquid consisting of about 5-20% acetic acid (CH3COOH), water and other trace chemicals, which may include flavourings. The acetic acid is produced by the fermentation of ethanol by acetic acid bacteria. Spirit vinegar has the highest concentration of acetic acid (usually 5 – 20%) and it is made from sugar cane or directly from acetic acid. We only use white cane spirit vinegar in our Sinamak.

*Increased Nutrient Absorption

Vinegar is high in acetic acid. Like other acids, acetic acid can increase the body’s absorption of important minerals from the foods you eat. Therefore, it is possible that drinking a mild tonic of vinegar and water just before meals might improve your body’s ability to absorb the essential minerals locked in foods. Or, adding vinegar to your salad dressing might help you absorb more nutrients from your leafy greens.

Vinegar has been used as a food preservative for hundreds of years. Vinegar due to its antibacterial properties, can effectively act as a good preservative for food by controlling microorganisms that generally attack food and cause decomposition.

White distilled vinegar will remain almost unchanged over a long period of time.

*Brain Health

It’s been suggested that vinegar consumption might improve cognitive function in humans, and research shows that acetic acid bacteria do, in fact, produce precursors of important building blocks of brain tissues called sphingolipids. These compounds play important roles in signal transmission and cell recognition.

*Controls Diabetes

Vinegar is helpful for diabetics. A test on vinegar’s effects was conducted on type 2 diabetic subjects. The research revealed that vinegar had a stimulating effect on insulin in diabetics and in case of insulin-resistant people, vinegar helped in raising insulin sensitivity. Taking 2 teaspoons of vinegar before going to bed can improve the condition of type 2 diabetes patients.

*Improves Acid-Alkali Balance

Taking two tablespoons of vinegar every day can help reduce high alkalinity in the blood. Alkalinity is increased by regular metabolism, which has to be balanced by an acid. Vinegar could be a good choice for this.
